How the specialist department at SNCF Réseau coordinates construction sites, staff, rolling stock and materials using Visual Planning.

Company
SNCF Réseau operates and maintains the French rail network. This reference relates to the department specialising in topographical analysis and techniques, which supports projects, specifications, site supervision and topographical inspections.
Background
Staff and materials were previously planned using paper calendars and magnetic boards. This way of working made it difficult to distribute up-to-date plans to mobile teams and to track construction sites, resources, vehicles and equipment.
Solution
Visual Planning centralises operational information and displays the availability of staff and material resources in real time. The application was configured step by step in line with existing processes. Staff can also access their schedules whilst away from the office and are notified of any changes.
Results
SNCF Réseau reports improved allocation of resources by construction site section, required qualifications and availability. The solution supports construction site organisation and order processing. A statement regarding increased turnover is taken from the customer interview, but was not substantiated with key figures or a calculation method.
“We manage personnel and material resources in a single overview and access the information in real time.”
Jérôme Peucelle, surveying engineer and topographer at SNCF Réseau
